Cape Island is an ideal cycling region to explore by bike with many interesting destinations very close together such as Cape May Point, Cape May Point State Park, West Cape May and Cape May all within a short cycle ride to each other.
There’s no better way to discover the beauty of Cape Island than a leisurely 12 mile cycling tour of the Island’s open spaces. From West Cape May it’s only a few blocks to the Cape May Meadows and a mile or so to Cape May Point State Park. To the north of West Cape May there are several miles of scenic back roads and the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area with open vistas of wildflowers and wetlands that are a naturalist's dream.
The best way to fully explore the area is to make it a two day leisurely ride. The second day; explore the town by bike after a ride in the outskirts the first day. You will discover cycling is a very practical way of getting around. Biking is a favorite pass time among visitors and locals. You may bike on the promenade until 10 a.m. After 10 a.m. biking and other wheeled activities are restricted to the streets.
Hiking and walking are also favorite activities on our Island. If you enjoy long walks it’s only about 5 or 6 miles round trip to Cape May Point or Sunset Beach from West Cape May and even shorter to walk down to the Cape May Meadows that has some wonderful trails to explore.
